The wall is sound. That doesn't make every brick in it load-bearing.
An argument that a property true of a whole group must also be true of each individual part of it. The group-level fact may be entirely accurate. What breaks is the assumption that it distributes evenly: a whole can have a property that only some, or even none, of its individual parts share on their own, and treating any one member as a small copy of the group skips the step where that would need to be shown.

You point out that a specific member of a group hasn’t been checked, and someone accuses you of refusing to extend any trust at all. That’s not what’s happening when the group’s standard is a genuine average with real variation underneath it. A uniformly enforced standard really does transfer from whole to part. A sound structure is a fact about the structure. On its own, it isn’t a character reference for every part inside it.
