What the Vault Is — and Is Not

Use private or incognito mode

If someone else uses this device or checks its history, open the vault in a private/incognito window. That will not leave the site in ordinary browsing history once the window is closed. It will not protect you from someone watching the screen, using a keylogger, or checking saved files.

Be realistic about a monitored device

The vault cannot hide that you used this website from someone who controls the device, the network, or a shared account. Parental controls, workplace monitoring, cloud backups, or a person with your password may still see activity. If you are not sure the device is private, use one you trust more.

What the vault protects

• Everything is encrypted in your browser before it is stored.
• Nothing is uploaded to Deceit or any server.
• Without your passphrase, the stored contents should be unreadable.

What the vault cannot protect

• It cannot erase your browser history or downloaded files.
• It cannot stop someone from taking the device or recording the screen.
• It cannot recover your data if you forget the passphrase.
• It cannot remove backups your operating system or browser make automatically.

Use a safer device if you can

A trusted friend’s device, a library computer, or a phone on a separate account can be safer than a shared or monitored one. Do not store the passphrase on the same device as the vault.

Think before adding an icon

The vault works offline once you have opened it — you do not need to “install” anything. If a browser offers to add Deceit to your home screen, remember that an icon is visible to anyone holding the device. Skip it if that would raise questions.

Recording consent

Photos and documents you attach belong to you, but some places require all-party consent to record conversations or video. Know the law where you live before you record someone, and store those files carefully.

If you need to leave quickly

The Quick Exit button at the top-right leaves this page immediately. Panic wipe inside the vault erases the vault itself, but it cannot erase history or files you already exported.
